Description
Acer platanoides ‘Nigrum’ is a deciduous cultivar that emerges in spring with large purple-red leaves, which then transition to a consistent purple shade throughout the summer and maintain this color until autumn. In the fall, the foliage transforms into a striking combination of orange and crimson. While its shallow root system may potentially cause issues with sidewalks and driveways, this cultivar exhibits tolerance to air pollution and is relatively easy to transplant. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil but also demonstrates adaptability to drier conditions with occasional drought and wetlands subject to occasional flooding.
