Description
Acer platanoides ‘Princeton Gold’ is a deciduous cultivar notable for its vibrant fluorescent-yellow leaves in the spring. The foliage then transitions to a softer yellow-green shade during the summer months. It is advisable to protect this cultivar from strong winds and intense sunlight. In autumn, the leaves display hues of yellow, orange, and red. While its shallow root system has the potential to lift sidewalks and driveways, Acer platanoides ‘Princeton Gold’ exhibits tolerance to air pollution and is relatively easy to transplant. It flourishes in moist, well-drained soil but can also adapt to drier conditions with occasional drought and wet locations experiencing occasional flooding. Acer platanoides ‘Princeton Gold’ was introduced by Princeton Nursery in New Jersey and a patent was filed in 1987.
