When new leaves emerge on Acer palmatum ‘Scolopendrifolium Atropurpureum’, they display a purple-red hue before transitioning to purple-green during the summer months. The autumn foliage provides a beautiful display of red-orange. This cultivar thrives in moist and well-drained soils but can be susceptible to leaf scorch in excessive sun, wind, or drought. It is cold-hardy and can also be cultivated as bonsai.
