Description

Sophora molloyi ‘Dragon’s Gold’ is a compact, bushy evergreen shrub known for its dense, spreading form and lush foliage. Native to New Zealand, it produces a profusion of bright yellow flowers from late autumn through to early spring, offering valuable winter colour and attracting nectar-loving birds during the cooler months.

Exceptionally hardy, ‘Dragon’s Gold’ tolerates cold temperatures and coastal winds, making it a reliable choice for exposed sites or challenging environments. Its low, spreading habit also makes it ideal for mass planting, borders, or erosion control.

This outstanding cultivar was selected in the 1950s by Terry Hatch of Joy Plants, from plant material originally sourced from Stephens Island, New Zealand. ‘Dragon’s Gold’ has since become a popular and resilient addition to both native and ornamental landscapes.
