Description

The ‘Worden Seckel’ (Pyrus communis ‘Worden Seckel’) is a treasured heirloom pear, first cultivated in 1881 by Sylvester Worden of Minetto, Oswego County, New York, also known for developing the Worden Grape.

As a seedling of the esteemed ‘Seckel’ pear, ‘Worden Seckel’ retains its parent’s rich, luscious flavor but distinguishes itself with larger, more vibrant fruit that ripens in mid-autumn. The small, glossy yellow pears, often adorned with a red blush, boast creamy-white, buttery flesh that is exceptionally sweet, juicy, and fragrant.

A standout in both taste and appearance, ‘Worden Seckel’ thrives best when cross-pollinated with either ‘Packham’s Triumph’ (Pyrus communis ‘Packham’s Triumph’) or ‘Winter Nelis’ (Pyrus communis ‘Winter Nelis’).

Like all members of the species Pyrus communis, the ‘Worden Seckel’ is a deciduous tree native to Europe.
