Description

The ‘Royal Gala’ apple cultivar, developed in the early 1900s by James Hutton Kidd in Greytown, New Zealand, was later released by the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

In spring, ‘Royal Gala’ trees display pink buds that open into white flowers. By mid-summer, they produce medium-sized apples characterized by their red-streaked skin and crisp, sweet, juicy, fine-textured flesh. To ensure a good harvest, ‘Royal Gala’ requires cross-pollination from other cultivars such as ‘Gala’, ‘Golden Delicious’, ‘Granny Smith’, ‘Monty’s Surprise’, and ‘Initial’.
