Description

The ‘Granny Smith’ apple cultivar originated in 1868 in Eastwood, New South Wales, Australia. It was discovered and propagated by Maria Ann Smith from a chance seedling.

‘Granny Smith’ trees produce pink buds that develop into white flowers during spring. In mid-autumn, they bear large, green-skinned apples that are excellent for both eating and cooking due to their crisp texture. This fruit is also known for being an excellent keeper. While ‘Granny Smith’ is self-fertile, planting it with ‘Golden Delicious’ or ‘Red Delicious’ can lead to improved crops.
