Description
The ‘Red Sunset’ red maple (Acer rubrum ‘Red Sunset’) is a deciduous tree highly valued for its brilliant autumn display, where large, fresh-green spring and summer leaves transform into a spectacular orange-red color. It features a broad, upright to rounded head growth habit and produces small, red flowers in early to mid-spring. While it thrives in moist, well-drained soil and full sun, it is also adaptable to a range of soil types, including sandy, heavy clay, peat, dry, and poorly draining soils. Additionally, ‘Red Sunset’ is cold-hardy and tolerant of windy conditions. It was introduced in 1966 and developed in the United States in the mid-20th century.
