Description
Te Mara’ is a cultivar of the Yoshino cherry (Prunus x yedoensis) that produces large bunches of scented, shell-pink, single flowers, creating a soft and delicate look. Typically blooming in early spring, these blossoms are known to attract nectar-seeking birds, adding a touch of wildlife. ‘Te Mara’ has an upright growth habit, providing structure and height to the landscape. In autumn, its foliage turns shades of orange and red, and the leaves often persist well into winter, offering extended seasonal colour. The Yoshino cherry itself is a hybrid native to Japan, resulting from a cross between Prunus speciosa and Prunus itosakura (syn. Prunus subhirtella), and ‘Te Mara’ was selected in New Zealand.
