Description
The ‘Jeffersred’ red maple (Acer rubrum ‘Jeffersred’) is a deciduous tree prized for its exceptional autumn foliage, where large, green spring and summer leaves transform into a stunning display of orange-red to scarlet-red hues. It features a vase-shaped growth habit and can be pruned to serve as a narrow windscreen. Notably, this cultivar very rarely produces flowers, fruit, or seeds. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and full sun, but it is also adaptable to a range of soil types, including sandy, heavy clay, peat, dry, and poorly draining soils. Additionally, ‘Jeffersred’ is cold-hardy and tolerant of windy conditions. It is a hybrid selected in the United States in 1980.
