Description
Acer saccharum, commonly known as Sugar Maple, is a deciduous tree characterized by its large, green, lobed leaves that develop into spectacular red, orange, and yellow autumnal colors in cooler climates. It features a compact crown and upward-sweeping branches. Notably, its sap is commercially harvested for the production of maple syrup. However, Sugar Maple is sensitive to heat and air pollution, and its root system can potentially damage underground pipes and crack sidewalks. It requires moist, well-drained soil and is not suitable for dry or poorly draining soil conditions. Furthermore, it exhibits intolerance to moderate to strong winds. Sugar Maple is a primary source of maple syrup and is native to the hardwood forests.
