Description
Betula pendula ‘Dalecarlica’, also known as Dalecarlian Birch or Swedish Cutleaf Birch, is a deciduous cultivar that shares the graceful form of the species Betula pendula but exhibits an even more pronounced cascading habit of its branches. Its rich green leaves are deeply lobed and serrated along the edges, giving the tree a light and delicate texture. Mature specimens develop distinctive white trunks, and in autumn, the foliage turns a lovely yellow, enhancing its ornamental value. However, this cultivar is noted for being less tolerant of extended periods of drought. Betula pendula ‘Dalecarlica’ was discovered in 1767 in the village of Ornäs, located in the central Swedish province of Dalarna, by Hans Gustaf Hiordt.
