Description
Magnolia × soulangeana ‘Lennei Alba’ is a deciduous cultivar that exhibits a neat and upright growth habit, making it a suitable choice for smaller gardens. It produces large, goblet-shaped ivory-white flowers and begins to bloom in mid-spring, even at a young age. Additionally, it is recognized as an excellent street tree. Magnolia × soulangeana is a hybrid between Magnolia denudata and Magnolia liliiflora. While the hybrid likely occurred spontaneously in Japanese gardens or nurseries historically, it was first acknowledged from intentional crosses made by Étienne Soulange-Bodin in 1820 at his home in Fromont, France. Magnolia × soulangeana ‘Lennei Alba’ was developed in 1905 by Karl Otto Froebel in Zürich, Switzerland and was introduced in 1931 by Messrs Keesen in Aalsmeer, Netherlands.
