Description
The ‘Golden Delicious’ apple cultivar was discovered at the Mullins’ family farm in Clay County, West Virginia, United States, and was first sold in 1914 by Stark Brothers Nurseries in Louisiana, Missouri, United States.
This cultivar is an excellent choice for desserts and serves as a great pollinator for other apple trees. In spring, its pink buds transform into white flowers. The fruit, initially green-yellow, turns a beautiful yellow as it matures in late autumn. When fully ripe, ‘Golden Delicious’ apples are honeyed and very sweet. While self-fertile, planting it with ‘Fuji’, ‘Gala’, or ‘Red Delicious’ can lead to better crops.
