Description
The Metrosideros excelsa ‘Lighthouse’ is a stunning, compact pōhutukawa ideal for modern gardens and smaller landscapes. With its tidy, upright growth habit and well-structured form, ‘Lighthouse’ offers year-round visual appeal and makes a striking feature tree. In early to mid-summer, it bursts into brilliant red blooms that attract birds and bring vibrant colour to the garden. Its lush green foliage, contrasted by silver-grey undersides, adds texture and interest throughout the year.
A hardy, evergreen native of New Zealand, ‘Lighthouse’ thrives in a wide range of soils and environmental conditions, making it a resilient choice for many settings. However, young trees may need protection from heavy frosts. Originally selected in 1983 by plantsman Graeme Platt, this exceptional cultivar was named ‘Lighthouse’ after the unique tree it was sourced from near the lighthouse at the north-western tip of Rangitoto Island.
Bring a touch of New Zealand’s coastal beauty to your garden with Metrosideros excelsa ‘Lighthouse’—a standout performer with timeless appeal.
