Description
Ukon’ is a distinctive cultivar of the Japanese flowering cherry (Prunus serrulata ‘Ukon’) with a vase-shaped growth habit and upright, spreading branches. Its unique, large, double flowers emerge from soft-pink buds, opening to a light-green to cream colour, sometimes with a pink tinge, and nestle attractively among the bronze-coloured emerging leaves. These blooms appear from early to mid-spring. In autumn, the foliage turns vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red. This cultivar originated in Japan in the 19th century.
